I agree-we train in all kinds of conditions on varying terrain, as well as
at night.
You still need to assess your assignment upon arrival and be sure that the
mounted units are being put to best use, and not assigned to areas which are
better suited for foot searchers.

Yes, always. Risk assessment and management is an important part
of the field team leader's job. And one reason why I recommend the
field team leader should *not* be the navigator nor communications
person.
Something I don't like to see is the practice of avoiding anything
risky in training, saving all the risk exposure for real missions.
That is a recipe for disaster.
