An old adage I believe strongly in is "never get your horse into a spot you
can't get him out of". Foot searchers would be much safer on high, narrow
ledges. If you've gotten into a spot that's that dangerous, it was bad
judgement on your part. Call me a wimp, but I learned not to take
unnecessary risks long ago.
