My first helmet was bought for me by my daughter who is a physician. Work in
the emergency rooms convinced her they are a good idea. One day when riding
along a safe, well groomed trail, my horse spotted a white sign off in the
weeds. He thought it was going to kill him and did a 180 leaving me on the
ground. As the back of my head hit the ground, I could hear the Styrofoam in
my helmet compacting. I got up, collected my horse, and continued to ride.
If it had not been for that helmet, my brain would have been compacting. I
get a new helmet as the manufacturer recommends. I figure if you have a
brain, it is worth protecting.
