This may be of interest to MSAR (and other SAR) teams in the
states adjacent to New Mexico: Arizona, Colorado, and Texas.

James Newberry, New Mexico Search and Rescue Resource Officer,
mentioned several items of possible financial interest on the
NMSAR-forum mailing list.

1. Your team may be eligible for formal recognition by New
Mexico State Police. Recognition includes listing on the NM
Recognized SAR Teams website (good for recruiting and maybe
also fundraising: http://www.dps.nm.org/sar/teams.htm) and
in the NM Resource Directory (good for getting your team
called out for missions: given only to Field Coordinators).
Several current MSAR-Riders subscribers belong to teams outside
NM (in Arizona and Texas) that have this arrangement already.

2. Mock searches organized by any of the ~80 New Mexico SAR
teams may be assigned a NM SAR mission number.

3. Whenever a NM SAR activity (emergency search, training
search, or mock search) has a mission number, then all teams
that respond (and sign in at incident base) are covered by
some insurance and are eligible to be reimbursed for their
fuel costs. (In 2003 I spent about $500 on fuel during SAR
missions.) James Newberry can provide forms (2) and their
instructions. To contact him:
