This post is to further address the discussion on
MSAR
personal getting general SAR
training.
In a perfect world all MSAR personal would try to get further training without their horses, but we do not live
in a perfect world.
After giving presentations, trainings and working with different MSAR groups across the US I can tell you
that as a rule for general MSAR personal it would be
like pulling teeth to get the majority to attend training
with out their horses.
The select group of us that do seek out
and attended non
horse SAR training are in the
minority. We can not really
fault people for this either because there
is only so much
free time most people can set aside from the
family and
work obligations. The majority figure if
its a free weekend its
going to be horsen around or nothing. I believe the key is to offer general SAR training at trainings that are geared at least 50% toward the mounted
volunteer.
The
most successful trainings that I have participated at
were
set up this way. About a hour or two on the horses and a hour
or two off their horses.
