The Asian greens work well for me...I've been giving out Bac Choi and Tatsoi for a month or so now. In a market it may be a bit of a learning curve, it is with new members in my CSA, but once they use it they won't ever turn it down....

I have always found getting greens in early September and  Early October a challenge.  This year I didn't even attempt it.  We will be picking our first fall/winter lettuce to sell in a week or two.  We  are enjoying a few salads for ourselves now.    The only way we have been successful is with transplanting and extra watering, shade cloth probably help.

Greens aren't a big ticket item for me.  I have them, but they are too labor intensive, for this one man show, to be very profitable.  If I can get the kids to bag them up, while I wash, it may be different.  Selling 5 -6 pounds is the best we usually do, until our winter markets start.  Then I usually can't have enough.

Carrots are a great seller for me in October, they have to be started at the end of July/early August to do this.  We are starting to pull our first carrots this year and they are awesome!  I have more time, sweat, sorebacks and WATER invested in this crop than any other fall crop of carrots, ever!  Haikuri Turnips, Radishes are also good sellers for me.  I also like sweet potatoes in the fall.  Anything that I can harvest and store mixed with quick growing things in the fall help me finish out the market year.

Transition time at our market.  Though some of our growers are done for the season, customers are still coming, willing to buy.  I want vendors at our market to meet that demand as long and seamlessly as possible.  Including me!

Glad I have mushrooms and chard.  Also late green beans.  Could sell more of all those now.

Wish I had lettuce now (an entire planting got washed away).
Wish I had more greens of any type.  They are coming, but not ready yet.

Any tips for harvesting lettuces and spinach in Sept and early Oct?  Or other crops that are good income generators?  Getting them going in late Aug and Sept, despite highly variable air and soil temps, and soil moisture?

How do some of you plan the transition, where you have ample supply of fresh veggies in Sept and October?

Thanks,
Richard
