We don't have permanent beds here, nor do we have any kind of crop rotation plan. Oh, how I wish we did! We tend to till up whatever crop is finished, and plant the next crop that needs to be planted. Today, an early planting of green beans is now a goner, and sunflowers will be planted in it's place.
We have no plan. No reason for what we do. It's always frantic, crazy, insane, last minute, and incredibly stupid mistakes are made constantly. My favorite whopper mistake this year: planting a very long row of sunflowers (400 feet) and the last 100 feet of row planted to amaranth. Nearly all of the sunflowers have now been picked, and I can stop watering that particular row right? Wrong. If I want the amaranth, I must continue to water 400' of nothing until I can find time to move the drip out of the way, till it up and replant. Assuming that whatever is on either side of that row is not too close for the tractor and tiller. Been there, done that.
So, if someone comes up with an incredible plan for making all of this simple and easy, please share :)

So, I'm trying to wrap my head around a new crop rotation plan that includes double & triple cropping some beds during the year. This is an open field growing area, but will also apply to a high tunnel we're putting up this year. The beds are in permanent locations but are tractor cultivated. Those of you that are double & triple cropping, how are planning your rotations? Do you for instance ever do this:
bean -> bean -> something else?
Or are you always moving crop families within your triple or double cropping?
I've looked at the various literature about crop rotations and there seems to be as many opinions & options as there are people in the world. We grow a diverse number of vegetables & flowers, so it seems like this is always going to be complicated. Am I wrong? Any pointers?
