Beth-
I just looked at their site--MailChimp looks interesting... is it as easy to use as they say it is? Our 'city' market is chock full ofl urban hip customers who would love to get a newsletter on their smartphones. And we have been thinking of collecting email addresses at market this season, even though keeping the website updated already takes enough time. How much time does it take to create and send a typical e-newsletter via MailChimp? Very few of my market customers want to give out their emails, even to me. The MailChimp list is primarily for CSA, but others are allowed to sign up, and I will have some print copies to hand out. Facebook actually has a lot of out of town folks liking me, so I don’t know how much good it really does. BUT, I occasionally post something that gets passed on to others, and that is what I am hoping for. My website is heavy on info, and I direct folks to it for info on the CSA, recipes, etc.

Beth and John, Thanks for first market tips, many returning and new customers yesterday. Struggle for me is when I converse for more than the purchase alone, a line can form, and by their body language some customers behind want the quick purchase. When I can bring a child along, they usually staff the "express lane".
Am trying to have more self-serve items ($1 bunches or pre-bagged greens). Then customers can grab what they want, total their purchase and hand me exact change while I talk with others.
The idea of some customers "wanting to buy a relationship" interesting. Really listening and responding from 7-noon can be tough, especially when short on sleep and energy due previous day's picking and packing.
Where do Email lists, Facebook pages and/or farm websites, other? fit into this customer relationship building/maintenance?
