Below is something my 15 year old niece sent me that helped her understand the National Budget and Debt. It reminded me that when explaining an issue whether political, business, personal - simplifying the big picture makes a position easier to understand. Then details can be added. In this case agreeing we have to pay the bills and stop the debt spiral. Next we can work on how. Many of us have pitched a project before and when we do this we have the details available, but we present the big picture often with a few simplified talking points and graphics. Once the client likes the idea we work on the details. I know that sometimes my passion for an issue can scare the those I am addressing into a defensive posture. In food and community issues, details and our passion sometimes overwhelm those we need to convince. Set the details aside, turn down the passion some; find a common ground on an issue. Working from common ground achieves our goal quicker and with more permanent results. Chuck The National Budget and Debt. United States tax revenue: $ 2,170,000,000,000.00 U.S budget $ 3,820,000,000,000.00 New debt $ 1,650,000,000,000.00 National Debt (previous yrs) $14,271,000,000,000.00 Current budget cuts $ 38,500,000,000.00 Now move the decimal to the left 8 places.
