We think we are out of options for our Fall season because we can't prepare
any planting areas. Our part of Texas is now in an "Extreme" drought. We are
irrigating with drip tape from a rain fed tank which is about half empty
since it hasn't rained in over 3 months. We don't have well or city water.
We use 100' rows, pulled up usually to 3' wide, high intensity planting. In
other words, generally need a tractor to prep, too much area for hand
preparation.

We were hoping for some feedback from those of you who have either
experienced drought in the past or are in one now. Are you able to plant? If
so, how are you preparing your planting areas? And are you getting good
germination on direct seeded crops without rainfall? If so, are you using
overhead irrigation of some kind?

We'll be spending the next few months figuring out our options. Clearly the
first problem to solve is how to get more water and at a cost that still
makes business sense. Any advice in that direction is also appreciated. We'll
be comparing a city water hookup, digging a well and increasing our water
storage capacity for when it does rain again.

Many thanks in advance,

Kim in Texas where the fire danger keeps soaring and we're just now entering
the active fire season
