First Frost Date here in the Cincinnati area is October 15, but the last five years we have not had a hard freeze till the first week in December.  With our geography I sort of ignore most frosts and keep going.  Its the freeze/snow/ice that ends outdoor planting for us.

We are planting lettuces, carrots, turnips, and beets.  We have had good result mulching with straw to prevent damage to the root, but in the end unless its under two layers of plastic it gets a bit poor once we go below 28-30F.

We are direct seeding still though in fairly large quantity, usually timed with rain fall predictions to avoid spending time getting irrigation on the seeds....just to save time.

Lettuces and micros we are planting in constant rotation till the second week in November or the first hard REALLY prolonged period of cold, which ever happens last.
