I grew snake gourd here in Iowa last year. There are many varieties.
My Indian customers were happy to see it at the market.

It was disease free and productive. The deer didn't even bother it.
But it is a big plant and it is a small minority of customers
interested in it. Our market is in a university town so we have a
higher percentage of Indian and other Asian.

To do a lot of these Indian / Asian gourds right you really need to
trellis and that gets expensive. Still, its interesting to grow these
unique varieties. I also grew ridge gourd (luffa), bitter melon,
winter (fuzzy) melon and Tinda - another Indian gourd, bottle gourd
(which almost took over our entire garden).
