At the KY Veg Conference, Dr. Wszelaki from UT presented on a multi-state biodegradable mulch study.
The three products they were looking at were paper/cellulose, cornstarch (Biotelo or Biobag) and polylactic acid or spunbound.
The closest link to the project I could find is: http://vegetables.wsu.edu/AltMulch.html from UWS, Mt Vernon.
The multi-state study is in early days apparently. Beside yields, they are examining potential for soil and biotic impacts (if any).

Mike
