I’ve used a Planet Jr. over the years, along with other seeders, both hand-push and tractor mounted. For small operations a push Planet Jr. can be a great tool. It doesn’t control seeding rate tightly but with small-seeded crops that have high populations and close spacing, they work quite well. Crops that I use it for include carrots, greens of all kinds, beets, turnips, kohlrabi, etc. I like having the scatter shoe, which creates a band of seed about 2” wide. You can use it for seeded onions if you plant early. You can thin the crop out at some point and sell the thinnings as scallions. The dynamic that works against this tool is the cost of hybrid seeds. If you use less expensive seed, it pays well. You need to be able to create a fine seedbed to operate it well.

Subject: [Market-farming] Plant Jr. Question

Had a Earthway, can now be found in neighbors field. We are considering purchasing a Plant Jr. seeking advice from users. How does it do with small seeds (turnips, beets, okra etc) and large seeds (bush beans, squash, etc)  Also considering Jang JP1, does anyone use both....Pro's and Con's appreciated.
