Yes, they eat tomatoes-- and corn, and berries, and....and also my geraniums. I've taken to picking tomatoes on the green side as the squirrels seem to favor the ripe ones. One morning I was gazing sleepily out my kitchen window waiting for the coffee to finish brewing and saw the culprit. There was a squirrel sitting up on its haunches in a patch of early morning sun in the garden holding my ripe tomato in its hands and happily munching. Squirrels now occupy a pretty high place on my sh!t list.
I can't answer about the sunflowers, unless they're where deer can get them, but yes! Squirrels definitely eat tomatoes!

Has anyone heard of squirrels eating tomatoes? Also, at the same times, a number of sunflower blossoms have vanished. We don’t have vandals, so am wondering if it is being done by squirrels, too. I’ve seen a few in the garden recently. Any help will be good, also solutions, please.
