This is why resellers should be outlawed from selling at farmers markets. It is a law in some states. Everyone should try and get on the board of their local markets and change the rules so that resellers are outlawed from selling at the markets, market that fact and create a following of people who value local produce. Resellers are not farmers and therefore should not be able to sell at farmers markets. It should be outlawed in every state.

Jay: You probably know this, but I'd spend late Summer and Winter strategizing on different markets to sell at. Its always going to be difficult to sell in a market with low-balling resellers, especially if it's Cal product (at least most of our resellers have the dignity to stick to a product closer to our region...). Even those little salt things from burger stands. Today
was the first day I had big tomatoes for sale at market. I have about 30 pounds
of Cherokee Purples and 10 pounds of Big Beef and some yellow ones. I put
$3.00 a pound on them and I brought home about 18 pounds of tomatoes. Lots of
dissatisfied customers. So, I guess I will drop to $2.50 a pound next
week and see what happens. Next week I will have over a hundred pounds to
sell for sure. As far as I know I am the only person with homegrown
tomatoes at my market. Lots of ones that are bought and resold out of
California and else where. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
