Why do you spray before the rain rather than after?

I usually have a ferment in crock in the cold dark going all summer ready to use for a 1:10 dilution. I spray on the toms before each of the late summer rains.

Subject: Tomato late blight comes early to the midwest

"If you grow tomatoes in the home garden or commercially for sale to the public...late blight may be a consideration this summer...

This disease has been confirmed in Northern Kentucky and growers are encouraged to consider a proper fungicide regimen this summer. Late blight has a reputation for doing serious damage to the foliage and fruit of tomatoes (and potatoes).

The fact that the disease has appeared again this year is a bit surprising and rivaled only by the earliness of it arrival.
It may not be in your garden just yet but it is better to be safe than sorry...

Treatments avialable to home gardeners atr protectant in nature and not curative... application prior to infection is important and repeated applications will be needed to protect newly emerging and expanding fruit and foliage.

I have placed a blog on the growing for market website with additional information/considerations.
The same info can be accessed at:

Please share this information with others who may also grow tomatoes.
