Does anyone have good advice on bermuda grass removal/ killing?  I'm trying to help my brother, who is starting an urban farm, figure out how to wipe out a stand of bermuda so he can plant vegetables.  He is totally opposed to roundup, and that is the extent of the advice the extension has for him.

Here's an article with a few suggestions:

In all cases, "time" is an essential element.  Cover crops & solarization are the primary suggestions. We're using both this year in preparing an orchard for planting this winter. We had pretty good luck with cover crops & a couple of repeated tillings on our vegetable patch last year, too (i.e. we cover cropped & tilled last year in prep for vegetables this year).
