If greens go loose into the washing machine, do you spend a lot of
time peeling individual pieces of lettuce off the edge of the barrel?

I reach in and gently grab double handfuls, then quickly pick up the strays, then wipe out the tiny bits with a clean hand towel (if I'm washing something different next).  Total time to unload for a 1.5 bushel batch is 1 minute at the most.

I am wondering why old dryers -- on air fluff cycle -- are never mentioned for conversion to salad spinners.  Is their motion too tumultuous?  (Is that a word?)

A washing machine's spin is fast enough to keep the greens pinned to the side of the barrel as the water spins out the holes.  A dryer's spin is relatively slow and the greens would tumble -- not a desirable outcome.

Chris.
