Radicchio does well in our summer heat -- which may get up to 92-93, not usually beyond.  The head types are so attractive -- look like large flowers.  The leaf types have same culinary qualities but are less attractive and more difficult to handle/keep looking good at market.  All radicchio is great in salads, can also be braised.   We are careful to explain to customers that they have a slight, but pleasing bitter taste as some folks never enjoy bitter direction, others (like me) love.

Another favorite is Kyona Mizuna -- mild mild attractive looking mustard that also grows well, is great in salads or can cook.

Best wishes,

Karen

What's a gourmet summer green?
