They may be woody at that size in the summer, when they grow faster.  I have had some even larger in the fall with good results.

I seeded an experimental patch, actually of Oasis from Fedco, on Feb 28 in my tunnel. Harvested some last week, most this week, will have a few sizing up for next week. I don't like radishes, but like these. I sampled the largest, fearing it was woody (1 1/2" by 2+") but it was juicy and tender. I think I'll have to give samples to get them moving, but I hear they sell well.

Jay,

I seeded some down in my high-tunnel last fall.  Although a bit crowded now, they are about the diameter of a quarter and tasty.  Probably ready to harvest in mid-May, roughly golf ball sized.  No, I am not a golfer...who has time for that now!?!

Jay I have had them in the past and they really sell good, pull them when  they are the size of large radishes.
