has anyone planted watermelons on black plastic?I am thinking it would burn the vines here in tx.

It works here in NY. But I don't know about Texas.

The vines themselves will shade the plastic, though. You can protect the young stems with a little soil around the opening in the plastic. But if you can't find a confirmation from someone that far south, I'd try just a few the first year.
