The widespread adoption of GMO crops has spilled onto the backs of organic
farmers in several ways.

In addition to major hassles and questions of GMO pollen contamination, the
use of cottonseed meal as an organic fertilizer is now regulated. Well, some
older NOP docs says it isn't, but OMRI and some ACAs says it is.

It has to originate from non-GMO cotton, which means that 95% of typical
bulk cottonseed meal is not allowed or "questioned".

West Texas and California are really the only two regions where organic
cotton is grown.

It has to do with the Bt gene.

Soybean meal, although from Roundp Ready Soybeans, is OK.... apparently/for now.

Wonder how GMO alfalfa meal plays out. There was a release of GMO alfalfa
seeds in 2005 so it got widely planted, then it got de-regulated. Now USDA APHIS
proposes to let it back out.
