Chris I guess it might depend on your soil composition to some
extent, but I would recommend subsoiling now if you can. If your subsoiling
brings up some hardpan you will want it to have a chance to break up this
winter. Subsoil, disk, rototill, and plant a cover crop. Spring oats and
Austrian peas will winter kill so you can get an early start next year. If
these are too late to plant for your area, plant annual rye. Your local
ag/extention office can advise for your area. Hope you have a good year. Plan
as much as you can now and order your seed early so you are ready when you can
