Hi folks,
I'm looking at breaking sod on a 1 acre plot in advance of preparation for winter cover crops.  I'm new to this scale of farming (having previously gardened on the scale at which breaking sod was possible with a shovel).  I have a small 30 horse tractor at my disposal, as well as a tiller, a disc, and a single shank subsoiler.

I'm wondering if someone could provide me some guidance.  Already I've made several passes, in different directions, with the disc, but it looks as if it will take many more to get anything that could be called a seedbed to broadcast cover crop seed into. It's possible the discing will get easier once the ground softens up (up in Western Oregon, and the ground is still very hard from our normal summer drought).  I'm reluctant to use a moldboard plow for obvious reasons.

Thanks in advance,
cheers,
chris
