While not all the varieties I've tried have been great producers, I believe Seed Savers Exchange is worth supporting.  Their mission is saving and sharing heirloom varieties.  Each year I find a couple more to add to my list of favorites--for reasons of production, storage, appearance and/or flavor.  Have had great luck especially with their beans, tomatoes and peppers.

Baker Creek seems to have a good reputation. I have ordered from them
a couple of times, but the varieties I ordered didn't do well here;
however, my climate and probably soils are considerably different from
theirs, so I think that's probably what the problem was. -- I believe
that their catalogue says that they do not buy from Seminis /
Monsanto. They carry a lot of unusual varieties that don't show up in
the rest of my (considerable) seed catalogue pile.

I order from High Mowing every year; and have been generally pleased,
except in 2007 when their service for some reason went entirely wonky.
It was fine every year before that, and has been OK since then, so I
think that whatever the problem was they have found it and fixed it.
Most of their varieties have done well for me, though not all. They
also have some varieties not found elsewhere; their selection is still
limited, but is larger each year. All of their seed is certified
organic, and they grow some of it themselves. Their catalogue states
that they work with a network of seed farmers, some of whom they have
trained to grow seed for them; and also do buy some from wholesale
seed companies. I doubt that they buy from Monsanto; they are strong
anti-GMO activists and also activists for local food systems; but you
could ask them.
