Summer officially starts this weekend and I am talking about the fall and winter.  I want to maximize my inside growing area this year.  I have two 18 by 45 high tunnels.  I am wanting to try to grow stuff inside them until at least Thanksgiving, maybe later.  It all depends on the weather!  I also want to grow more greens for this fall mainly September and October.    When I say greens, basically lettuce and spinach.  Many people like the baby spinach I had earlier this year.  I would also like to keep that growing and harvesting for as long as I can.  I also would like to try Swiss Chard, Beets, Carrots, and Radishes.

When should I start these fall crops?  With the greens should I try to use transplants early on when it is hot, then switch to direct seeding?  Am I crazy to attempt this?

In the perfect world, I would have a movable high tunnel and then just place it over the crops I have growing outside.  However, that is not going to happen!

What are your fall growing schedules like?  I live in North Central Kansas in zone 5.

Thanks for any and all help!

Jay
