Hi Ray,

It is starting to get hot and seed in the field may have spotty germination. If you have a cool spot to seed (basement) transplants should give you better control. I transplant all heading lettuce for spacing and to get a head start on the weeds, anyway. I just seeded four flats this evening of Nevada. Never grew it before. I have some late day shade. Maybe we can share notes on our success or “learning experience”.

Lots of luck,

I'm getting ready to try the summer crisp lettuces.  I'm wondering if I should start in seed trays  and transplant or direct seed in the garden.  My selected site gets morning sun, but by mid afternoon is in shade.  Do you think I can get by without shade cloth.  I am in Taylorsville Kentucky.
