I'd sure like to get a look at it too. We have some pretty serious wind here in Fort Collins. Fortunately, I've never lost a hoop house (yet), but I really like how simple yours sounds Celeste. Sue Sue Oberle

It would be nice to see how you secure the panels on the sides and other engineering details. -John ----- Original Message ----- From: Celeste Illgner Havener <chavener AT uwyo.edu> Date: Monday, May 11, 2009 11:04 am Subject: Re: [Market-farming] blown over hoophouse To: Market Farming <market-farming AT lists.ibiblio.org>Curtis, I am sorry to hear about your hoop house. My hoop houses are cattle panel tunnels; 16X 30 ft. (9 ft high). They survive 100 mph winds (really) and reset themselves after collapse due to heavy snow. They are not very tall, heat isn't our biggest concern here, and they are very durable. I don't know if you could redesign something like this for your application. If wind is a constant concern and you would like to know more just email me directly. Celeste High Horse Farm Laramie Still waiting for frost free nights. Last night 20 degrees. I have two questions for the group. First, our 20x96 hoophouse is mangled on the ground, and before I rebuild, I'm wondering if there is any way to build a hoophouse to take 80mph winds, or if this is just what happens in freak weather. Does anyone have a high tunnel that has survived this kind of wind, and if so, any construction advice. Second, many of the crops have tattered leaves, and many are bent over (like broccoli, cabbage, etc.). What do I need to do for these plants to keep them healthy, and lose as little production as possible? Thanks in advance for any knowledge you all can share.
