I've got some Sakata's Sweet melon seeds in 2" soil blocks. I didn't cover the seeds, although I did cover the flat with floating row cover to keep in moisture and keep out rodents. The seeds sprouted, but the root just went wild, curling around and around in the indentation of the soil block, without actually rooting in. Out of 50 blocks, I have 3 viable seedlings, the rest never split the seed coat, just sent out a root and then died? Any ideas what's going on here? I typically have pretty good luck with melons, and I am confounded by this...
Thanks for any ideas you have,
Curtis
