Yes. The ends of some of the leaves are black. Some of the old flower
stalks seem to be empty. Favas seem to be tough to grow.

For us (we grow them every year), they are one of those crops that depend on the year. Some years you get them, some years you don't. It certainly helps to start them early. The year that I started them in September, they did really well, until temps hit 14, then they were over, never to come back. From now on, I start them early, about the time we are pushing onion sets into the ground. Ours have survived 95 degree days so far this year, but the beans are still little and now we are entering a 10-day stretch of 90-degree weather. I imagine we won't eat any favas this year. But we still have the Cianti!

Favas, if inoculated with true fava rhizomial inoculant. are suppose to be excellent soil builders.
