ONE WEEK LEFT! NOMINATE A FARMER OR RANCHER FOR SARE'S MADDEN AWARD

Do you know of a farmer or rancher who truly is outstanding in the field, on the range or at the farmers' market?

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program announces its third award for farmers and ranchers who raise food or fiber in ways that are profitable, good for families and communities, and beneficial to the environment. Nominate a producer for the 2006 contest in two SARE regions: North Central and West.  (The Southern and Northeast regions have already picked winners.)

Each regional winner will receive $1,000 and a travel scholarship to "A Midwest Homecoming: Sharing a New Tradition of Sustainability," the SARE conference in Oconomowoc, Wis., Aug. 15-17. All producers farming in the North Central and Western regions of the United States are eligible, except for previous winners and current members of the North Central and Western SARE Administrative Councils.

The North Central Region includes: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The Western region includes: Alaska, American Samoa,  Arizona, Colorado, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Micronesia, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

Learn more and view previous winners at http://www.sare.org/coreinfo/aboutmadden.htm.

(No self nominations, please. Nomination deadline - April 5, 2006.)

SARE is administered by the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, USDA. Since 1988, SARE has advanced farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities. See www.sare.org.
