Your setup sounds like it should work okay, presuming this is a
masonry chimney and has been cleaned.

Any time a pipe from the stove to the chimney does not have to run
flat, but rather slanted towards the stove this is better as it allows
creosote to run back to the fire box for burning rather than building up in
the pipe.

As for the draft, does the top of the chimney rise above the peak of
the house at least 2 ft? 3 ft is better to allow air to flow up under the
top of the flue opening and create suction for an up-draft. Yes, it can
make all the difference in the world no matter how well constructed
everything is at the lower levels.
