I have been growing a triple sweet gene bicolor corn called Providence
that's become a big hit with my customers in a market dominated by white
varieties. This year I got to try a genetically modified version of this
corn that expresses the bt gene. All I can say is its nothing short of
remarkable producing 99%+ worm free ears without additional pesticide
applications. By not applying pesticides there has been a great increase
in predators that control aphids but nature has a way of filling voids
so now my problem is controlling sap beetles. For now Im using twice
weekly applications of carbaryl and hope to find something safer for
predators... Im told you will be able to buy Bt sweets next year in
amounts as small as 25000 seeds or roughly 10 pound units in yellow
white and bicolor seed costs around $25 an acre more. If your looking
for a worm free way to grow sweetcorn give this corn a try.. Bob.
