I have been growing a triple sweet gene bicolor corn called Providence
that's become a big hit with my customers in a market dominated by white
varieties. This year I got to try a genetically modified version of this
corn that expresses the bt gene. All I can say is its nothing short of
remarkable producing 99%+ worm free ears without additional pesticide
applications. By not applying pesticides there has been a great increase
in predators that control aphids but nature has a way of filling voids
so now my problem is controlling sap beetles.
But you are applying a pesticide. The entire corn plant has been turned into a pesticide producer, so that the pesticide (BT toxin) is being applied continuously to your field all season.
I'm glad that this isn't messing up your predators, at least so far; but the long term effects of this aren't known.
