I think a wheel hoe is one of the best investments a small-scale market
farmer can make. I felt my wheel hoe practically paid for itself the
first time I used it. The work went much faster and my body did not
suffer as it would have if I'd been using a regular hoe. That said,
crab grass is a tough weed and if the grass is too large and thick you
may need more than a wheel hoe. As you recognized in your note, the
best course of action is to solve (prevent) the problem with cover crops
and appropriate tillage.

Hi,

On another topic, does anyone have experience with the Glaser wheel hoe that Johnny's carries?  We have a problem with crab grass and other weeds growing between the paths of our raised beds and later creeping into our beds.    We have not been diligent enough with rototilling and cover cropping to solve this problem.

I was wondering if the Glaser wheel hoe would be worth the $300 investment?

Thanks,
Margaret
