Found an article put out by ncsu on Vinton 81's and they felt as though the flavor we not quite as good.  We are still using some of the seed that I brough home from Vietman in 67, I keep growing some every year just for seed but some of the new varietys are out yielding them greatly and the new varieties are getting more deterimate .  We went to transplanting them last year and have been very pleased with the results of more yield and more pods ready at the same time which really helps with the harvest.  I know of no one that plants soy beans thet does not plant food grade beans.  There is a big difference in the way the plant grows and the pods mature for harvest.

Marie in your area a 100 day bean should work good for you.  We prefer to use a little shorted day bean.  Rutgers Cooperative extention has a good hand out on the vegetable soybean fact sheet FSO41.  Very good fact sheet and also Washington State University http://agsyst.wsu.edu/edam.htm  .
