Kevin: I have a cottage cheese container filled with soapy water and I
knock them off into the container and they drown. This year I started this
routine early in the season and was able to get some mating pairs into my
water-- great pleasure to get them BEFORE they make babies. Getting them
early has helped a lot-- have lost nothing this year to the few that somehow
got hatched compared to last year when they wiped out all of the kabocha and
some of the summer squash.

If I had a vacuum, I'd try that, too -- one way or the other it's labor
intensive, but worth it if you get an early start.
