Toni,
The flea beetles are indeed bad this year. Even in our pastures, you can
see the damage on the clovers. I wonder whether it has to do with two
consecutive very wet summers. On the other hand, we have the fewest
problems with squash bugs and are wondering if it's because wedid not grow
squash last year. Isn't farming interesting?

Hi Allan,
This is the latest flea beetles have been so abundant in our beds
in
the 4 years since our move from the Left Coast. We also had thought they
would have diminished more by now. This is a VERY buggy year for us -
and many others on various e-lists. I am now to the point of saying -
"This too, shall pass". I am glad i never got that half flat of
eggplant
in the ground this year ;-)
I used my first Rotenone ever in all these years of growing, just
because i have a rare, heirloom cuke that i am obligated to grow seed
for. I never have used such a dramatic remedy in my organic growing
time! It is definitely a year of abundant life with all the rain and
cooler temps for late summer.
I went out to pick the first planting of corn that was all there
and
ready - last nite coons came and picked only all the mature ears. The
hill above the garden had the cobs strewn 30 feet up it! sighhhh.
The next patch is untouched, as they are also waiting for the moment of
perfection in those ears, too.
My Arugla is the indicator for flea beetles now - and it does
finally
look like they are taking it easier on that bed.
Good Growing,
Toni in KY - zone 6a
