Hi Mark,
Here is a url for an image of rowcover used over salad beds:
http://www.fourseasonfarm.com/main/articles/articles/images/178-36-1d.jpg
Mine are half-round, 9 guage wire hoops, and so are taller for plants
like broccoli, cauliflowers, cabbages,
and squashes. We have a heckuva lot of pests here and these really help
this organic gardener! I stabilize the end wire hoop with a forked piece
of wood wedged outward against it. Down the center of each wire after
that, i tie heavy, waxed string to keep them upright. Row cover or
Remay-type fabric goes over that and is pinned to the ground along all
sides ( either bought garden staples or more 9 guage staples homemade).
Some people just use earth to hold down the sides - I need to get in
there so often that i just lift few staples and tend or harvest area. My
beds are mostly 20X4 and this works well. There are some types available
that will last longer - for a lot more money. I use the type that my
local farm supply sells for tobacco beds, but desire a heavier sort next
year!
Toni
