Chickens would roost on them, but otherwise, I don't see a problem.Do you have them confined?
Chickens never do damage to my trees here, and I have hundreds of chickens that free range.
They would be great for bug control.
They will eat berries, of course.
I have that great mesh fence from Premier, and we have two Great Pyrenees. (who also do a wonderful job of keeping the deer away) We have hen houses built on old trailers that we move around. We don't lock them up at night. Before the dogs and the Premier fencing we would lose chickens at a rapid rate if they weren't locked down at night (raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, red fox, grey fox, possum). Now, the only chickens we've lost to predators in the past 6 months was due to a wayward Goshawk (the bird book says they don't winter this far south - oh well).
While we have an egg share which sells for $3.50 per dozen (and we sell out early). The real use for the chickens is to fertilize and weed the fields.
