My favourite garden footwear (except when tilling or
mowing, or in winter), is Chaco sandals. Rubber soles,
single pull-through strap with quick-clip fastening, no velcro
to get full of burrs. Totally washable, impervious to mud,
securely fastened round my feet. They're made by a fairly
small and very friendly company in Colorado. They do
repairs, too. Not cheap, but very sturdy and comfortable for
day long use. In fact I keep two pairs on the go: one for
gardening, one for after work.
