Hi,
Sorry, I don't have a source for your Soybeans or grain, but I think you
would do well to always buy organic. The reason is that the majority of
soybeans in the USA are genetically engineered (I believe that companies
have GM wheat ready to go,but have not released it yet). This is VERY
dangerous food. If you don't believe me, you should read "The Seeds of
Deception" by Jeffrey M. Smith. Anyone with health problems (but really all
of us) should do all they can to avoid GM products.
Sincerely,
John O'Donnell

Subject: [Market-farming] Looking to buy wheat and soybeans -
Pennsylvania
Hi,
I buy wheat and soybeans for our household's use - I'm
able to buy 100 lbs of each at a time. I much prefer
purchasing organic grains whenever feasible.
The wheat must be *hard* wheat - it's used for making bread.
Either hard red winter wheat or hard red spring wheat are
OK. The hard *white* wheat (also called Golden 86) is not
acceptable, I do not like it.
I use the soybeans for making soymilk, tempeh, and tofu.
I'm presently buying these from Montana (the wheat) and Iowa
(the soybeans). But I'd prefer to buy more locally, which
would also incur lower freight costs. We are located in
north-central Pennsylvania.
My husband and I both have chronic health problems that make
traveling very difficult for us, so I need to purchase by
mail (i.e., to have the grains shipped), unless their origin
is within a 50 mile range of Wellsboro, PA.
I'm not in a hurry at present: I have a few months' supply
of each. But I'd like to find a more local producer of both,
if at all possible, and develop a long-term farm/consumer
relationship.
So: if anyone is selling either organic hard red wheat or
organic soybeans in this type of quantity (100 lbs each),
and is willing to ship, please let me know *via private
e-mail*, and let me know what you would charge for each one
(exclusive of shipping).
Thanks!
Pat
