I think there is a new market for such pet food - as currently, pet food is
a result of the industrial food system, meaning that downed animals rendered
are a part of the pet food industry. Perhaps this will change with the
ruling against downer animals, or perhaps pet food companies will capitalize
on downed cattle and pursue them as a cheap source of food.

Enclosed I include a link to an article by our own Wisconsin John Stauber on
Mad Cow, and a reference to where you can read his 1997 book on Mad Cow
Disease. The Mad Cow Disease will hopefully bring about realizations about
our food system and the way decisions have been made, so that legislators
and the populace will make decisions supporting family farmers and healthy
food growing in our country. (OK, I know that's optimistic, but we must
hold our expectations high so as to encourage higher standards than we
currently hold!)

The warnings have been there for years. Will government regulators,
consumers
and the meat industry now finally wake up that what worked in Europe must be
employed here?

My other business and the one that has supported us for 8 years is selling
reptiles at shows and to pet stores. Raising rabbits can work well for this
use, there is steady demand and they need all sizes. Also a person can raise
feeder mice and rats . We don't do any of those because I am trying to
diversify but there is a market there.God Bless,
Kevin Miller
