Today in the United States nearly two-thirds of the population is overweight
and almost one third is obese. In this important hour-long ABC News special,
Peter Jennings reveals how government policies and food industry practices
are helping to make Americans fat. "Peter Jennings Reporting: How to Get Fat
Without Really Trying" will air Monday, December 8 (8:00-9:00 PM).

Subject: [Market-farming] Plugs

A few more plug companies to consider are Rakers (Michigan) and Gro 'N Sell.
I purchased from both last year and was very pleased. If I remember
correctly, you need to go through a broker like Harris or Park Seed or
Germania for
Rakers, but you can order directly from Gro'N Sell. And, one of them
includes
shipping in their per plug cost. Both the Harris and Park Seed commercial
catalogs have various growers of plugs, so there are lots of choices.

Another west coast broker is We-Hop www.we-hop.com and the Plug Connection
and from their websites www.plugconnection.com you can view availability
lists
from many west coast growers (Headstart, Skagit, etc.).

One other avenue I use is a local nursery who grows lots of bedding plants
and perennials. I have provided them a list of flowers (both annual and
perennial) that are more difficult to germinate (given my unpredictable NW
weather/springs), and I pick them up at their greenhouse when I'm ready. No
shipping
costs, and a very low plug rate (between $.06 - .10 per plug!) Last year
they
grew about 40 288-plug trays for me.
