Depression? Heck, I grew up eating 'roasun ears' out of my Granddaddy's
cornfields. We ate it and put it into the freezer - didn't even mess with
those "tiny" sweet corn ears - took too many of them to fill a freezer
container. Don't know how old I was before I realized we were saying
"roasting ears" - probably an adult. I remember being amazed when a science
teacher in Jr. High proclaimed that field corn " wasn't fit for human
consumption". I'm sure I corrected her, and probably got called down for
it! Roasun Ears were only good to eat fresh for 2 or 3 days - so when my
Granddaddy called us to say it was ready - we got over there fast to put up
our winter store.
