Craig, You can plant sweetcorn 6 weeks before frost date, as long as the
growing point is below ground, which it is till the corn is almost 12"
tall, the frost will not kill it.
Corn earworms overwinter in GA and they can appear anytime without warning, up here in NJ the earworm dies in the cold soil and new moths need to fly up from the south each year giving us an earworm free period sometimes until August. The problem here and everywere in corn country are corn borers, they overwinter in the cold and cause most of the ear damage before the earworm season begins...Bob. Sunny Meadow Farm Bridgeton, NJ.
