Regarding limited space, some in shade: If your trees are deciduous, you
might consider growing assorted greens for fall, winter and early spring
harvest, as in Elliot Coleman's "Winter Harvest Manual" and "Four Season
Harvest" - he has planting dates applicable to anywhere in country. He has
used unheated hoop houses and floating row covers (though recently I heard
he has added some kind of heat to some of the houses?) - you could do a
winter CSA type deal - is anyone else in your area growing mixed baby salad
greens, oriental greens, etc all winter? If not, there's your niche!
