we let the tree service dump here for years and have a mountain of composted chips that we have used to improve our fields.  there is no pine or walnut growing here so we just got oaks, ash and whatever has to be cleared away from the power lines.  it takes about 3 years and a lot of work or 5 years with little work to break it all down, but it has made good soil out of our sand.  of course, we added kitchen compost and feed with organic supplements.
