HERE IN TEXAS, WE ARE RUNNING DRIP LINES AND SPRINKLERS ALL DAY. UNLIKE THE EAST COAST, WE ARE WAY SHORT ON WATER. ONION HARVEST IN THE AREA IS LOW, WITH BULB SIZE TOO SMALL. WE HAVE PULLED OUR 1015 AND THE SWEET GEORGIA BROWN ONIONS ALREADY AND THEY ARE SMALLER THAN LAST YEAR. THE SUPER STAR AND THE MARS RED ONION ARE BOTH STILL UPRIGHT AND GROWING. EVEN OUR AMETHYST "BABY" ONIONS ARE HANGING ON. WE GROW OUR OWN ONION PLANTS AND THIS, ALONG WITH PREMIUM SEED VARIETY, IS GIVING US A BETTER CROP THAN OTHER GROWERS IN NE TEXAS.
WE GROW A VARIETY OF VEGETABLES AND OFFER PICK YOUR OWN. WE ARE ORGANIC, BUT HAVE NO WISH TO BE "CERTIFIED". WE HAVE FLOCKS OF GUINEA FOWL AND CHICKENS FREE RANGING THROUGH THE GARDENS TO KEEP GRASSHOPPERS UNDER CONTROL. OUR NEIGHBORS WHO USE PESTICIDES HAVE SEVERE GRASSHOPPER DAMAGE, OURS IS MINIMAL.
